Custom urban elements for municipalities and contractors

When a catalog product is not enough: how a custom design at Karmania goes from idea to drawing, sample and series production.

A large part of our work is custom. A municipality wants an element at the city entrance with local identity; a contractor has to build a structure that is in no catalog; a shopping complex wants benches and lamp posts in its own colour with its own logo. This post explains how such a project runs at Karmania.

1. Needs assessment

It starts with a conversation, in person or online. We go through the site, the rough budget, the schedule and any reference drawings or photos you have. For large projects our team visits the site.

2. Concept and drawings

Our designers present one or more concepts with 3D renders. Once one is chosen, we prepare manufacturing drawings with dimensions, materials, fixings and foundation details. The exact cost is fixed at this stage too.

3. Sample

For series orders we build a sample before production so you can see and approve the colour, dimensions and details in reality. Changes are cheap at this stage; after production they are not.

4. Production and installation

Series production in the factory, with the same quality control as our catalog products. Delivery and installation are done by our own team, and at the end every unit is registered in the warranty system.

What we have built to order

  • Steel, concrete, fibreglass and illuminated elements for squares and city entrances
  • Bus shelters, canopies and gazebos matched to the local architecture
  • Planters and flower boxes in special sizes
  • Flag poles, camera masts and sign posts to project specifications
  • Precast foundations for fast installation

A custom design does not cost more than the catalog when the quantity is reasonable; the real difference is time. To start, describe your project on the quote request page and attach a drawing or reference photo.
